The Vaxis Atom 500 SDI is a wireless video system that sends a camera image to a director's or focus puller's monitor. Unlike the HDMI-only Atom 500, it takes both 3G-SDI and HDMI at the transmitter, so it suits more cameras.
It works in the licence-free 5GHz band, transmitting visually lossless H.265 video with latency below 80 milliseconds. That is quick enough for framing and for most focus pulling, and the licence-free band means no frequency coordination is needed before a shoot.
The transmitter has one 3G-SDI input and one HDMI input, and the receiver has one 3G-SDI and one HDMI output, so it can feed a monitor or a downstream recorder. Range is rated at 500ft in line of sight, which covers most studio and location set layouts without a repeater or extra antennas. It is a simple pair to set up.
