Tiffen 85 4x4 Colour Correction Filter

The Tiffen 85 is an orange colour conversion filter that warms daylight to suit tungsten-balanced stock or a camera set to 3200K. In 4x4 it fits a standard cinema matte box or a small filter holder.

Use it when shooting daylight exteriors with the camera balanced for tungsten, which keeps the look consistent with tungsten lit interiors, or for a deliberate warm shift in daylight. It costs about two thirds of a stop of exposure, so open up or add light when you use it. The 85 is a conversion filter, so it makes a fixed shift, and with a digital camera you can often get the same result by setting white balance, which also keeps the sensor's full exposure.

The filter is 4 x 4 inches in glass. The 85 converts daylight at 5500K to 3400K, with an exposure increase of 2/3 stop. The 85B version converts to 3200K, and the 85C to 3800K. It drops into any 4x4 matte box tray.
