Tiffen 82mm Black Pro Mist 1/4

The Tiffen Black Pro-Mist 1/4 in 82mm is a screw-in diffusion filter that softens highlights and lowers contrast with less lift in the shadows than the standard Pro-Mist. The 1/4 grade is the usual all-round strength for portraits, narrative work and night exteriors.

Black Pro-Mist blooms bright sources such as practical lamps, windows and street lights and gently smooths skin texture, while the blacks stay dark rather than turning milky. At 1/4 the look is visible in backlit scenes but still subtle enough for ordinary coverage. Because it screws onto the front of the lens, it goes on a mirrorless or cine zoom with an 82mm thread, with no matte box needed, and it can be taken off between setups.

The filter is 82mm, in glass, and has a filter factor of 1.7x, which is about 0.8 stops of light loss. Use a step-up or step-down ring to fit it to lenses with a different thread size.
