Sony FE 85mm F1.4 G-Master Prime

The Sony FE 85mm F1.4 G Master is a fast short-telephoto full frame prime for E-mount cameras. It suits portraits, interviews and close-ups where you want strong background separation at a comfortable working distance.

At f1.4 it gives a shallow plane of focus and a smooth, soft background, and the lens is sharp wide open. Autofocus is fast and quiet, which helps with moving subjects and run-and-gun interviews. The 85mm length is a classic portrait and close-up length, with flattering compression and room between the camera and the subject.

The lens weighs about 820g, takes 77mm filters and focuses as close as 0.8m. It is an E-mount lens covering full frame, and it is the largest of our G Master primes, so a lighter gimbal may need rebalancing. The aperture is marked in f-stops rather than T-stops, so allow for a small difference when matching it to cine lenses.
