Scrim-Jim - 4ft x 4ft

The Scrim Jim 4x4ft is a Westcott Cine kit: a folding aluminium frame with fabrics for diffusing, bouncing and toning down light. It is the standard small-format frame on documentary and drama sets.

The frame breaks down from four 46 inch tubes and clips together in seconds. Fitted with the diffusion fabric it softens a light or takes the edge off sun without changing colour temperature or skin tone. Fitted with the reversible silver and white fabric it works as a bounce for fill or kick. It can be hand-held or flown from a stand.

The kit gives a 4 x 4ft working area, with a 3/4 stop diffusion fabric and a silver and white bounce fabric, and weighs around 2.4kg including its case. The fabrics clip on without tools. For larger set-ups the Manfrotto Pro Scrim in 6x6ft covers a bigger area, though a 4x4ft frame is far easier to place in tight interiors.
