The Rode NTG3 is a super-cardioid shotgun microphone built for film, television and broadcast location work. It uses RF bias technology, so it shrugs off the moisture and condensation that cause trouble for most condenser mics.
RF bias is the reason the NTG3 is trusted in damp conditions such as rain, early morning exteriors and humid interiors. The sound is clean and slightly warm with a full frequency response, and the polar pattern is tight but forgiving, so it holds up whether it is on a boom pole or mounted on camera. The body is machined from solid brass, which keeps it robust without making it heavy.
It covers 40Hz to 20kHz and handles a maximum SPL of 130dB. The microphone measures 255mm long and 19mm across, and weighs 163g. It is designed and made in Australia and carries a 10 year manufacturer warranty. It pairs naturally with a blimp or a Rycote foam and Windjammer for exterior work, and travels in a tightly sealed aluminium storage cylinder.
