Canon 514XL Super 8

The Canon 514XL is a Super 8 cartridge camera from 1975 with a fixed 9-45mm f/1.4 zoom, aimed at filmmakers who want real Super 8 grain, either as a texture for a period or memory sequence or for a finished film look. It takes standard Super 8 cartridges, so the film stock is whatever you can buy and have processed.

The zoom lens is built in with a 43mm filter thread and macro focusing, and split-image focusing makes manual focus quick. Exposure is automatic with an EE lock for fixing the reading, and a 10 second self-timer is included. The kit comes with the remote switch so you can run the camera without touching the body, which is handy for locked-off shots, and six AA batteries.

The camera shoots at 18fps, with 9fps and single frame also available. The lens is a 5x zoom from 9mm to 45mm at f/1.4, and shutter angle is 220 degrees. Exposure settings cover Tungsten ASA 40, 160 and 250 and Daylight ASA 25, 100 and 160. It runs on AA batteries, and film is loaded as a standard Super 8 cartridge, so stock must be bought separately.
