An 8x8 foot silent half grid cloth, a medium-weight diffusion fabric used on a frame between a light and the subject. It cuts the light and softens it, taking the hard edge off shadows while leaving a natural, directional look.

A half grid sits between the full and the quarter grid. Use it when a full grid takes too much light and a quarter is too light to soften the shadows enough. At 8x8 it is big enough to cover a close-up or a two-shot with a single frame, and quicker to rig than a 12x12. The silent finish prevents the rustle and crackle that fabric makes in wind, which helps when the camera is recording sound.

The cloth is 8 x 8ft (2.44 x 2.44m) and rigs on an 8x8 frame. It is the middle grade of the three grid cloths, strong enough to tame hard sun on a close-up and light enough to leave the scene looking natural.
