12x12 Un-bleached Muslin

A 12x12 foot sheet of unbleached muslin, a natural off-white cotton fabric used on a large frame as a diffuser or a soft bounce. It is a warm, soft material that gives a gentle, slightly warm light and is a common choice for period work and warm interiors.

Muslin has a natural cream colour, so it adds a warmth to the light that passes through it or bounces from it. This works as a built-in correction on daylight or as a warm fill. As a bounce it gives a soft, broad source that wraps around a subject. As a diffuser over a window or on a frame outdoors it softens the light and takes the edge off shadows. Natural fabric is not silent and can crackle in wind.

The fabric is 12 x 12ft (3.66 x 3.66m) and rigs on a 12x12 frame. Unbleached muslin is a natural cotton with a cream tone, so it warms the light that passes through or bounces off it, and it gives a softer, more organic quality than a synthetic fabric.
